Argrow “Kit” Evans-Ford a Pace e Bene nonviolence speaker and trainer is the author of the new children’s book and curriculum on Bishop Richard Allen, founder of the African Methodist Episcopal Church (AME).  Kit’s introduction states,

“A few years ago I was looking through my Grandma Argrow’s Bible and a brochure of Richard Allen fell out.   It talked about his legacy.  I thought, ‘What was it about Bishop Richard Allen that caused my grandmother to hold him as an inspiring example?’  She was a local deacon in the AME Church and had such a compassionate heart.  She taught me to love God and others.

I researched and saw that his life had modeled something so powerful for my grandmother.  In turn she had modeled these same qualities for our family:  freedom, faith, family, education, nonviolence, courage, and love.  I thought it necessary for me to write, A Children’s Book on Richard Allen: A Nonviolent Journey, so all children can understand the life and legacy of such an important person in the AME Church and our history.

A Children’s Book on Bishop Richard Allen: A Nonviolent Journey takes you on an adventure of Bishop Richard Allen’s life. In the book, the character, Grandma Argrow, tells her granddaughter, Bobbi, the story of Allen. She details his life from slavery to freedom to eventually becoming the Founder and first Bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Bishop Allen models character traits connected to freedom, faith, family, education, nonviolence, courage, and love which illustrate positive values for children and adults today. Remarkable acrylic paintings and watercolor effects give full expression to the life and legacy of such an important person in history, the Bishop Richard Allen.

The curriculum (a separate book) is to be used with, A Children’s Book on Bishop Richard Allen: A Nonviolent Journey , and highlights some of the ways that teachers and parents could extend learning for students. The activities include many subject areas. Language arts topics include: Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening. Social Studies topics include: Genealogy, Geography, and History.
